W. Atelier Announces Collaboration With Okamura

Designers, homeowners and corporates can now visit W. Atelier to experience and purchase the full range of office and task chairs by Okamura. The Japanese furniture company is the latest brand to join W. Atelier’s collection of modern furniture.

Founded in 1945 in Yokohama City, Japan, Okamura is renowned in the design scene for its high quality office furniture defined by rigorous fabrication processes. Before the launch of every product, the in-house team conducts stringent safety and durability tests to ensure durability despite constant usage. For instance, Okamura’s office and task chairs can withstand the test of time – even after they have been repeatedly sat on, tilted or wheeled. Chair bases are also made in consideration of instances where users forcefully dump their weight onto the seating shell.

Apart from quality, Okamura has created multiple technologies that focus on the ergonomics of seating. Chairs recline based on weight distribution gathered from the ankle’s natural movements – essentially reducing the pressure on the upper leg. Okamura’s Multiple Density Cushion also helps to distribute body weight evenly, reducing pressure points to improve blood circulation. Providing additional comfort, the Seat Pivot Suspension enables the plastic seat shell to flex.

Featuring all the essential components, the latest Plimode chair takes it up a notch with elegant curves and seamless tailoring. The cloth on the backrest and seat are skilfully applied to the design to ensure that there are no gaps and creases – bearing the artisanal attention to office furniture design akin to that of a well-tailored suit, all while keeping the user in an ideal posture at work. Available at W. Atelier, Plimode comes in four patterns, with 33 different colours amongst other personalisation options.

Okamura’s dedication to design and quality have been celebrated in multiple product design awards, including the Good Design Award, Industrial Design Excellence Award, Neo Con Innovation Award, and Red Dot Award, to name a few. More recently, its height adjustable, eco-friendly electric desk/table SW, and its versatile, perching stool Repiroue received the Red Dot Design Award 2016. These pieces are being exhibited at the Red Dot Design Museum Singapore from now until 30 November 2016.
