Louis Poulsen is proud to present a limited edition reissue of the timeless Poul Henningsen designed PH 2/1 table lamp. Available only between 1 October and 31 December 2020, the lamp is yet another iconic design brought back to life by the globally renowned lighting manufacturer.
Well-known for its partnerships with some of the most notable architects and designers of the last 100 years, the Louis Poulsen x Poul Henningsen range celebrates the designer’s pioneering work with the relationship between light structures, shadows, glare and colour reproduction – and his appreciation of the human need for darkness as much as light. Initially designed by Henningsen in 1927, the PH 2/1 table lamp’s beautifully crafted yet simplistic form is a perfect expression of the designer’s pursuit to reduce glare and enhance illumination.
The shape of the lamp centres around the reflective three-shade design Henningsen crafted in 1926. The revolutionary system is based on a logarithmic spiral, with the centre of the light source placed in the spiral’s focal point. That creates directed downward light and – compounded by the warmth of the Italian mouth-blown, amber coloured glass shades – an inviting, soft, diffused glow outwards. The three-layered glass is glossy on the outside and sandblasted on the inside, giving the glare-free light a depth and texture that creates an air of warm sophistication and comfort.
Because the PH 2/1’s shades are mouth-blown, each lamp is furnished with its own character – no two pieces are the same. But the unique quality of each piece doesn’t end there. The bespoke shades are supported by a stylish, lightly brushed brass frame – a throwback to the original 1927 design and further enhancement of the unique character of each lamp as the brass has been left untreated to allow each lamp to develop its own one-of-a-kind patina over time.
The lamp’s frame also features a brushed brass through switch on the stem, near the base – another thoughtful detail linking this stylish reissue to the 93-year-old original. A crowning detail on the limited edition lamp is the discrete engraving of the Master of Light’s initials beneath the lower glass shade.
The pleasing golden glow of the limited edition PH 2/1 table lamp creates more comfortable and inviting spaces for life and work. It will bring the luminosity of warm refinement to commercial spaces such as restaurants, cafés and hotels, public buildings or offices, and provide a relaxing and welcoming ambience placed on a table, bookshelf or windowsill in the home. Even turned off, the sculptural quality of the PH 2/1 table lamp will add dynamism to its environment, reflecting the surroundings off its surfaces in a playful twirl.
Uniting some of Henningsen’s most remarkable design elements in Louis Poulsen’s latest release, the iconic PH 2/1 table lamp is a limited edition reissue available only for three months – a truly unique opportunity to bring the iconic glow of golden hour to any interior.
