The University of New South Wales Faculty of the Built Environment have appointed a new Dean in Professor Alec Tzannes, founder of the Sydney architecture firm, Tzannes Associates and past president of the AIA.
Tzannes takes on the role after a particularly strong period of growth for the Faculty under the stewardship of Professor Peter A Murphy. It has seen the development of a 1000m2 DesignLab, a purpose-built research facility, refurbished studio spaces and new exhibition spaces. They have also been imporving and strengthening industry and student support and driving innovation in teaching and learning.
“This is an opportunity to give back to the profession that has given me so much,” Tzannes says.
“But even more importantly, it’s an opportunity to be part of a Faculty that I believe can play a major role, through both its teaching and research, in meeting one of the major challenges facing society – how to design, construct and manage sustainable built environments.”
