The City of Sydney’s By George 2009 – Hidden Networks aims to develop temporary artworks in laneways and “forgotten places” off George Street as part of the Art & About festival in October.

“Last year’s first ever By George! project saw military tanks roll through Sydney lanes, giant Tetris shapes wedged between buildings, gutters transformed into canvasses and elaborate balloons installed to inspire the imagination,” said Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP.

The deadline for proposals is 2pm on 3 June 2009. Each proposal must come from an interdisciplinary team that includes at least one artist; at least one architect, urban designer, landscape architect; and at least one “other” person such as a musician, poet, scientist or psychologist.

The program will see up to eight laneways transformed during October with the works to stay in place until January 2010.
