#SGID17: Did You Make it to All of Our Showrooms?

One day, nine hours, nine venues – did you make it to the nine stops along our three #SGID bus routes?

#SGID17: Did You Make it to All of Our Showrooms?

If your answer is yes, you might be winning a fabulous prize right now. If not, don’t fret. Here’s a recap!

The Curated Space

Serving as the first and last stop, and the main venue of #SGID17, the Curated Space served up an exciting line up of events that deserved their own post, which you can find here!

Louis Poulsen Showroom

Croissants, coffee, tea and five minutes with one of Singapore’s most influential young designers – Louis Poulsen served breakfast at Café Louis and played host to the first session of 5 Mins With… SGID Influencer series. #SGID17 Influencer Cherin Tan of LAANK shared her take on running her own design practice, developing a brand, and exploring craftsmanship (lookout for a dedicated post on our 5 Mins With… series). Highlights in the showroom included the limited-edition amber PH 3 ½ lamp (only available until Lunar New Year) and an Instagram contest to win the Yuh Lamp by creating your own hygge moment using Scandinavian-inspired décor in the showroom. Visitors were also invited to draw on a wall with a larger than life illustration of Yuh. And, Louis Poulsen gave away a $1,215 Patera Lamp designed by Oivind Slaatto!

Kreon Showroom

Kreon presented new products including Cana 40 and Fuga, and also played host to the second session of SGID17’s booked-out Design Conversation series. Titled ‘Interacting with Light and Data’, the session saw the showroom packed with more than 80 visitors eager to hear from lighting experts Dan Foreman (Arup), Josephine Dimalibot (Bo Steiber Lighting Design), Toh Ya Li (Light Collab) and Bunpot Assawarungsee (Illuminate Lighting Design) – look out for a recap article soon! Celebrating the event, Kreon also held a Polaroid contest to win a Belux Lifto Table Lamp.

Fritz Hansen/ W. Atelier Showroom

W. Atelier‘s bright and spacious new Henderson Road showroom had something for everyone – freshly baked cookies, artworks, a Peranakan-style craft workshop, an Instagram contest, and yes, a Design Conversation. The 20,000-square-foot showroom hosted the third session of SGID17’s Design Conversation series titled ‘Bricks to Clicks and Back Again: What Matters Most in Retail Design’, which discussed the evolution of retail design in the age of e-commerce with Dario Reicherl (Republic of Fritz Hansen), Matthew Shang (HASSELL), Yah-Leng Yu (Foreign Policy Design Group) and Lim Wenhui (SPARK). So which matters the most, bricks or clicks? Find out in a dedicated recap article that we’ll post soon!

W. Atelier was offering #SGID visitors special promotions on Fritz Hansen Objects, Dr Vranjes home fragrances, en&is art decor pieces and selected TOTO products. Nice! Even better, W. Atelier offered a $5,020 Fri Chair designed by Jaime Hayon for Fritz Hansen as a prize for an #SGID17 visitor who made it to every venue! The winner will be announced soon!

Other highlights included art presented by Miaja Gallery, a Peranakan postcard tile workshop with Jennifer Lim, cookie baking demo with Christopher Tan at W. Atelier’s Siematic live kitchen, and TOTO’s snap-and-win contest – the best Instagram pic took home TOTO’s Aerial Shower.

Sam & Sara Showroom

#SGID marked the official first day of operation for the Sam & Sara showroom! And in another #SGID first, Sam & Sara introduced their new furniture design collaboration for its brand Ipse Ipsa Ipsum with the Peranakan Museum, titled Designing Warmth. The Sam & Sara team also presented a projected artwork based on a HDB block and the everyday life of Singaporeans. The team put on an impressive spread of coffee and snacks, which went down very well with the huge crowd that gathered for #SGID’s fourth Design Conversation session.

Titled ‘What does ‘Luxury Hospitality’ mean today, the Design Conversation invited hospitality experts Jinou Park of Design Hotels, Wong Chiu Man of WOW Architects | Warner Wong Design, #SGID17 Ambassador Joris Angevaare of designphase dba, and Claudio Bardi of HBA to share their insights on the demands and expectations of the new consumer, and how notions of ‘luxury experience’ are being flipped and redefined.

P5 Showroom

The entrance to the P5 showroom was marked by an installation with larger-than-life flamingos, neon-coloured birdcages and cosy outdoor furniture with a backdrop of wallpaper with a banana leaf motif. This was Down to Earth – an installation created by multi-disciplinary design studio Elixr (helmed by designer Grace Wong and photographer Mark Wong) in collaboration with P5. Inside the showroom, a shop-in-shop by Supermama displayed handmade items made by Japanese artisans. All these served as a backdrop to SGID17’s second 5 Mins With… session with SGID17 Influencer Wendy Chua of Forest and Whale (look out for a dedicated recap article)!

P5 generously offered an amazing prize for the best Instagram photo with the #SGID17 hashtag: a D 154.2 Chair by Gio Ponti for Molteni & C, worth $7,638. The winner will be announced shortly!

Cosentino Showroom

At #SGID17, Cosentino celebrated the launch of four new colours for Dekton by collaborating with three creatives from various design disciplines. Interior designer Alan Fan of TOPOS Design and designers Albert Dube and Rosa Lopes from Raffles College of Higher Education recreated the Singapore Skyline with Dekton, while accessories designer Irene Kusuma of Carotpepper incorporated custom-cut Dekton pieces into three of her handbags.

The cosy showroom also played host to #SGID17’s third 5 Mins With… session with #SGID17 Influencer Gabriel Tan, who shared his experience of starting design collectives. He shared with design students in the audience how to persevere as an independent designer (look out for a dedicated feature!).

Visitors also enjoyed a marshmallow-torching demo done directly on Dekton surfaces. This demo served both peckish visitors and those eager to find out more about the patented architectural surface.

JANUS et Cie Showroom

JANUS et Cie turned Japanese for #SGID17! Celebrating the launch of the Japanese-inspired seating collection Katachi and the Sandpoint fabric collection, the showroom held a traditional Japanese tea ceremony, which segued into a happy hour with a sake-tasting session. Sandpoint consists of 76 style-driven performance fabrics, and the Katachi lounge and dining seating ensemble was designed by JANUS et Cie’s very own Janice Feldman.

Hermès Flagship Boutique

In case you hadn’t figured it out, the ‘H’ in our special H-Route bus loop stood for Hermès! Visitors to #SGID17 were among the first to experience Through The Walls – an immersive exhibition by Hermès that showcased the beloved fashion brand’s complete home collection, artfully displayed within the top two floors of Hermès’ flagship store in a striking and playful scenography by Jean-Christophe Valliant and Herve Sauvage. #SGID17 visitors had the chance to take home a piece of exhibition in the form of pinwheels made with Hermès paper. Did you miss out on SGID17? (How could you!) Don’t worry, this exhibition runs until 29 October! Photos of the space are by Edward Hendricks.
