Ask any designer and we’re sure they’ll agree: embarking on a career as an industrial designer involves coming to grips with a whole lot of professional issues that you don’t necessarily learn at school.
Starting your design career sure can be daunting. But fear not – wisdom is at hand!
We at Indesign Media Asia have organised a special mentorship breakfast session as part of our Launch Pad program for emerging designers. It’s happening this Friday 18 May from 8am at the Schiavello Singapore showroom.
Hear from three experts from the fields of design, law and media and arm yourself with knowledge that will serve you well for years to come.
Founder, Jarrod Lim Design
When we caught up with Jarrod Lim earlier this year at the International Furniture Fair Singapore, he was telling us about how he has ventured into custom production services for interior designers, making use of the manufacturing capabilities available in Indonesia. At the Launch Pad Mentorship Workshop, Jarrod will recount the development of his own design career in Australia, Europe and Asia, and provide a glimpse into the rationale and strategy behind the multi-pronged design business he runs from Singapore today.
Associate, Intellectual Property, Technology and Gaming Dispute Resolution, Rajah & Tann Singapore LLP
We all know intellectual property is critically important, but when and how do designers need to act to protect it? Lawyer Leow Jiamin handles intellectual property matters for a wide variety of clients and will give workshop participants an introduction to the need-to-know facets of trademarks, patents and copyright. Rajah & Tann Singapore is part of the larger Rajah & Tann Asia group, which has a presence in ten countries around Asia.
Editor, Cubes and Indesignlive.sg
Exposure in the media is a crucial ingredient in the development of a successful design career. But how do you get it? Indesign Media Asia Editor Narelle Yabuka will share insider tips on how to approach and engage with the media, why it’s important to pitch your work appropriately, and what should go in your press release if you really want editors to read it. Want to know how we select the best content for our own publications? This is your chance to find out.
After breakfast, stick around at Schiavello for the rest of the morning and watch the live judging of our 2018 Launch Pad Asia finalists. They’re vying against each other and the finalists in the Australian heat for top regional honours and a $10,000 manufacturing grant!
