A total of 22 recipients were honoured this year, including 2 for ‘Building of the Year’. Here are the highlights.

The Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA) gave out a total of 22 awards on 18 May 2012 to recognise works that exemplified excellence in architectural design.
Out of 112 submissions entered for the 12th cycle, 10 Design Awards and 12 Honorouble Mentions were given out in 6 categories.
“The quality in the shortlisted projects exceeds our expectations and this is a testimony to the very refined creativity that is evolving all the time within the profession,” says Ashvinkumar, Chairman of the Jury.
The submissions were evaluated based on originality and innovation, sensitivity to context, sustainability, response to climate, response to users’ needs and elegance of construction and detail. Here are some the highlights:
Design Award: Residential Project & ‘Building of the Year’ recipient
Martin No. 38 by Kerry Hill Architects
Excerpt from jury citation: Martin No.38 is a most elegantly designed and well-crafted building. The planning is perfectly simple and logical. The form is clean and well-proportioned, providing sensible volumes to create good spaces and apartment layouts, beautiful lobbies, gardens and amenities.

Excerpt from jury citation:
A walk through the house is an endless journey of delightful surprises, even at such a modest scale. From outside, one’s attention is immediately captured by the house in raw concrete, featuring a grassy porch-roof. The house shows that concrete is a material for the ages.
