Project highlights from this year’s awards in Singapore, including Building of the Year.

A total of 29 recipients were honoured at the recent 11th SIA Architectural Design Awards in Singapore.
The prestigious award, conferred by Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA), aims to recognise works by its members that exemplify excellence in architecture.
There were 160 submissions this year. Projects are evaluated based on attributes such as originality and innovation, sensitivity to context, sustainability, response to climate, response to users’ needs and elegance of construction and detail.
Industrial, Transport & Infrastructure category (Honourable Mention): The Helix Bridge, Architects 61 Pte Ltd in association with Cox Architecture
This year’s judging panel of industry professionals included Mr Ashvinkumar (President, Singapore Institute of Architects); Ar Boon Che Wee (President, Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia); Prof Wong Yunn Chii (Head, NUS Department of Architecture); and Tay Suan Chiang (Correspondent for The Straits Times – Life! And Lifestyle, Singapore Press Holdings).
Commercial category (Honourable Mention): ION Orchard, RSP Architects Planners & Engineers (Pte) Ltd in association with Benoy
Residential category (Design Award): Pinnacle @ Duxton, Arc Studio Architecture + Urbanism in association with RSP Architects Planners & Engineers (Pte) Ltd
There were 6 categories – Residential, Commercial, Institutional, Industrial, Transport & Infrastructure, Interior Architecture, and a Special category. From these emerged 9 Design Awards recipients and 19 Honourable Mentions, with the much anticipated “Building Of The Year” going to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital – by CPG Consultants Pte Ltd in association with RMJM Hillier.
Commercial category (Honourable Mention): Aman New Delhi, Kerry Hill Architects Pte Ltd in association with Design Plus Architecture
Commercial category (Honourable Mention): Alila Villas Soori, SCDA Architects Pte Ltd
Residential category (Design Award): Botanika, SCDA Architects Pte Ltd
SIA has also announced that starting this year, the biennial awards will be held every year.
“Design works by SIA Members are increasingly being sought after and recognised internationally. We decided on the annual awards to take the opportunity to recognise these projects more frequently than before,” says SIA President, Mr Ashvinkumar.
