Singapore architecture firm Ministry of Design have recently won the Offices category at the Inside awards at the World Architecture Festival in Barcelona with their own studio space.
“We are thrilled and thankful,” says director Colin Seah of the win in Barcelona. “Also, honestly, a bit surprised given the strength of the other entries from neri & hu as well as MK27.”
“It’s wonderful, especially when it’s not just an award for our design but a design for our own studio space.”
“The jury commended the strong underlying concept that unified the disparate areas in the office (the barcode), as well as how the office was designed to facilitate a non-hierarchical and democratic experience, celebrating spaces for interaction and discussion.”
Titled Bar Code Office, the interior space employs the principles that govern Ministry of Design’s approach – typological relevance, a disciplined material and tonal palette and an ’essentialised’ concept.
The linear interior spaces sit within a perimeter, which acts as circulation around the entire space. A series of mixed program spaces are positioned along these circulation axes. The plan of these spaces resembles a bar code, hence the name.
