Makati City in Manila has been chosen as the location for a new Trump Tower in Asia.
30 July, 2012
Rather than heading to the cosmopolitan cities of Tokyo or Hong Kong, the Trump organisation has chosen Makati City, Manila’s growing financial and commercial hub, to erect its next branded tower in Asia (the region’s only other Trump Tower in Seoul, Korea is more than a decade old).
The 56-storey luxury condominium project in the Philippines will be sited within the up-and-coming 3.4-hectare mixed-use Century City – a Century Properties development – along Kalayaan Avenue; it will include a 480sqm Trump Plaza, a 250sqm restaurant, a 690sqm business centre, an 819sqm fitness centre and spa, and a 720sqm sky garden with pool.
Being a Trump-branded property, one can no doubt also expect the tower to a prominent fixture in the city’s skyline.
Broadway Malyan, a firm that is no stranger to large and prestigious architectural builds, has been tasked to lead the design. The concept is a ‘peeled’ facade of an extruded square, articulated with internal box ledges and external terraces at the top and bottom corners that peel away and accentuate the dynamic form of the tower. In addition, an environmentally responsive skin with light shelves and shading systems will react to the building’s orientation in relation to sun’s path and help to improve building performance whilst maximising the panoramic views of the city.
And like how all Trump projects favour the extreme, the aim is for 250-metre high skyscraper to take on the title of tallest building in the country when it is completed in 2015.
