Manifesto and Lexicon are the results of a human-centred global market research conducted by Steelcase to explore the changing work patterns and workplace needs of the Gen-Y or post-’80s worker, now entering the workforce in large numbers in Asia.

The research, which was done in major markets including China and India, revealed that work styles, new work-life demands and increasing workspace density are changing the way office systems and storage in the workplace are planned and used.

Manifesto

Manifesto is a flexible complete system solution designed to meet these challenges and the changing needs of the Gen-Y worker. It supports 3-dimensional space management that facilitates individual and team work in a variety of settings. Personal portable screens provide privacy yet encourage interaction; dead space is used to maximise storage needs; unique elements offer personalised storage and privacy; vertical storage are transformed into structural elements; and cable storage and connectivity are built into one smart system.

The range offers simple solutions to meet every requirement from benches to desks to panel configurations and tables, using the same range of components and elements. Lexicon allocates room for both personal and public items, and enables the personalisation of workspaces to support the way individuals work.

The development of Gen-Y products is part of Steelcase’s Asia strategy for 2011. “Generation Y is a dominant force in shaping Asia and will have a dramatic global impact over the next 20 years,” says Uli Gwinner, President of Steelcase Asia Pacific.

“Creating better workplace environments benefits organisations, noticeably by helping them attract, engage, and retain top talent. A growing number of companies across Asia are partnering with Steelcase to understand and leverage generational work styles to meet business objectives.”
