A special briefing to announce details of the India International Furniture Fair (IIFF) was held in Singapore, during the International Furniture Fair Singapore (IFFS) in March.

Local organisers IFFS and MP International will hold the trade show at the Bombay Convention and Exhibition Centre in Mumbai, India, which will cover 10,000 square metres of exhibition space and see over 70 percent overseas exhibitor participation.

The fair will showcase a wide range of exhibits, ranging from residential to commercial furniture, occasional furniture and furnishings and is expected to draw some 5,000 visitors from across India, Sri Lanka and United Arab Emirates.

Show highlights will include a new-to-market product showcase and industry seminars on design trends and new product innovations.

The Association of Furniture Manufacturers of India is just one of several trade associations to welcome the move. Its chairman, Anil Mathur, states that there has been a lack of international platforms in India for leading international brands to participate in and present their products to the local market.

“The India International Furniture Fair will be beneficial, not only for India’s high-end furniture importers and retailers to network and source for exciting furniture brands, but also for our local architects, interior designers and real estate developers to be exposed to a diverse range of innovative furniture designs,” says Mathur.

In the latest figures from World Furniture Review by CSIL Milano, India currently represents the world’s 8th largest furniture market and its real consumption of furniture will grow another 6 percent this year.

India’s rapid urbanisation also looks set to further spur strong demand for quality furniture in the coming years. The country’s domestic demand is currently dominated by imports from Italy, Germany, Spain and Malaysia.
