Industry+ has launched a new gallery and showroom to take its ‘made in Asia’ brand to the next level.
August 25th, 2016
Founded by Yoichi Nakamuta and P.C. Ee in March 2014, the main goal of Singapore-based Industry+ is to produce high quality contemporary design products that are made in Asia. In a span of merely two years, it has partnered with some of Asia’s most respected designers – Anon Pairot, Desinere, Studio Juju, Nendo, to name just a few – and participated in important international industry events, such as Milan Design Week.
In the most recent development, Industry+ has opened a brand new space at Tyrwhitt Road, which will serve as a gallery and showroom. “Industry+ did not start out as a brand; it started out as a showroom,” reflects P.C. Ee. “Then we started to get more serious because it had so much potential. There are so many things to discover that we’ve yet to discover, in terms of manufacturing, in terms of materials, in terms of designers that we’re going to work with, and also in terms of the directions in which we are going to go.”
Where once Industry+ had to reach out to designers, Ee says that more and more, designers are approaching them to collaborate, which he sees as a positive sign that the brand is moving in the right direction. “I think they have been watching us. Once they know what we are doing, and the quality of the production is also to their satisfaction, they are more confident and start coming to us,” he says.
Beyond design products, the new space at Tyrwhitt Road also carries a curated selection of artworks, including the works of local artist Sophia Ong and photography by Jovian Lim. The range of products also extends to jewellery from State Property and watches from Anicorn. In addition, Industry+ marks the opening of its brand new space with a playful installation by Do Not Design involving paper cut-outs that mimic shadows to bring a sense of surprise to different corners of the space.
Industry+ is already busy working on a new series of chairs and other products for next year’s Milan fair, in partnership with existing collaborators as well as new designers, which means we can expect to see a lot more from Industry+ very soon.
Industry+ is located at 1A Tyrwhitt Road, Singapore 207522.
