The first Herman Miller exhibition in Asia promises a stellar line-up of programmes, including a travelling show titled Essential Eames.
17 July, 2011
Come 16 September, Hong Kong’s design scene will see a heightened level of activity with the launch of Herman Miller’s first exhibition in Asia.
Held in collaboration with the Hong Kong Design Institute, REACH is a 3-month-long event that invites audiences to explore and experience design, and the world of Herman Miller, through a rich series of highly visual, interactive and educational programmes.
Essential Eames Exhibition
REACH will be the launching ground for Herman Miller’s brand-new travelling exhibition, titled Essential Eames. To be held at the Hong Kong Design Institute Gallery, the event will be officially opened by Eames Demetrios, grandson of Charles and Ray Eames and principle of the Eames Office.
The exhibition will give intimate insights into the life and work of the legendary couple with never before seen images and a showcase of no less than 15 new interactive films based on An Eames Primer – a book by Eames Demetrios.
Opened to the public from 16 September to 3 December 2011.

Pan Asia Pacific Aeron Hockey Championships
In yet another world first, Herman Miller will be holding the first Pan Asia Pacific Aeron Hockey Championships during REACH. Design’s own sporting event will see teams from 10 countries around the Asia Pacific region battle it out five-a-side with a puck and hockey sticks, on a purpose-built court, all while seated on the iconic Aeron chair!
The stakes will be high with each member of the winning team to receive an Eames Lounge and Ottoman.
To be held on 16 September
On 16 and 17 September, the public and members of the industry will get the rare opportunity to hear from some of the world’s foremost names in design. The impressive line-up of speakers includes long-time Herman Miller collaborator, Don Chadwick; Eames Demetrios; Don Goeman, Executive Vice President of Research, Design & Development at Herman Miller; Steve Frykholm, the award-winning creative director behind Herman Miller’s graphic identity; and Moira Moser, founder of M Moser Associates.
Retreat will be a meeting point for Herman Miller to engage with clients and showcase Herman Miller’s offerings for the home and office.
Also opened to the public, the space will be specially designed by cross-disciplinary design collective Phunk Studio.
From 16 September to 16 October
