3 October, 2011
ArchiTours has always drawn a crowd at Singapore’s annual ArchiFest. This year, the travelling architecture tour of noteworthy buildings around the island will be covered in 5 sessions to be held on 3 Saturdays in October.
Here are some of the highlights.
36 Boon Teck Road
Eco House (36 Boon Teck Road)
The 3-storey inter-terrace by Jaye Tan of DP Architects is the first completed private residence to receive the Green Mark Platinum rating.
The architecture is driven by the principles of passive design, the air-conditioner and hot water system are solar-powered and all artificial lighting are energy-efficient LEDs.
Sustainable materials have also been utilised wherever possible, including recyclable steel structures and reclaimed timber flooring.
This sustainable house is expected to reduce carbon emission by 4.62 tons per year – the equivalent of saving 22 trees a year.
Session: 8 Oct, 9am – 1pm
TreeLodge@Punggol

This pilot green public housing project is aimed at pushing the adoption of more sustainable design and construction in Singapore.
It addresses pragmatic, social and economic issues, overcoming planning/site constraints sensitively with optimal adoption of passive planning and architectural design strategies. These have been further enhanced by relevant green technologies throughout all stages of the building lifecycle.
Session: 8 Oct, 2pm – 6pm
18 Shelford Road
18 Shelford Road
18 Shelford is situated on a site that dips 4 storeys below the road. Taking advantage of the natural terrain, the building has been designed with layered thresholds. Residents and visitors ’walk on water’ through the spacious lobby; a slender bridge between the blocks creates another threshold to the units; and those arriving by car enter via a screened ramp, lit by skylights under a reflective pool.
Session: 15 Oct, 9am – 1pm
158 Cecil Street

The project needs were simple: to improve the facade and stark atrium space. This led AgFacadesign to devise an attractive hanging garden with a layered-glass open facade. Click here for more on that story.
Session: 15 October, 2pm – 6pm
Rochester
Rochester
