The INDE.Awards Luminaries and Wilkhahn come together in celebration of our industry’s icons
April 7th, 2021
Over the years, Indesign has paid tribute to those who have spent their lives in service of the industry they love. Through the INDE.Awards program, these stalwarts of architecture and design are recognised through the Luminary award: an honour designed to pay tribute to the icons who have had a lasting impact on the industry in which they work.
Each year, Indesign’s editors make a selection of four Luminaries. With representation from across the Indo Pacific, each Luminary is selected on their body of work and the extent to which their personal portfolio of projects and achievements speaks to a commitment to their craft, an individuality of approach and an understanding and service to their local and regional vernacular.
For 2021, the Luminary vote will be – for only the second time – judged by the INDE.Awards Jury. This rigorous process will allow for a “Luminary of the Year” to be crowned at the 2021 gala, an honour which provides an enduring legacy for its winner, marking them as a leading light amongst a field of luminous talents.
The 2021 Luminary is proudly presented by Wilkhahn, a company closely aligned to the notion of eminence. Originating in Germany and celebrated across the globe, Wilkhahn has crafted a reputation on exceptional design. Built – like all true legacies are – on the foundations of pragmatism, Wilkhahn’s dedication to timelessness and durability has seen them produce some of the most iconic products in workplace design, products that have set the standard for commercial products the world over.
Over the years, Wilkhahn has given the industry designs that are innovative and cutting edge, where a constant desire to evolve has ensured their relevance has never wavered. It is this relevance and endurance that speaks to the idea of the Luminary, to a narrative crafted out of a unique approach that grows into something more.
Importantly, Luminaries must have a far-reaching influence, a legacy that touches people, places and communities beyond their immediate circle. In the INDE.Awards, our Luminary alumni’s have a deep understanding on the wider purpose of their craft, a sense of how design builds understandings of personhood and nationhood, how it fosters societies and communicates with the surrounding environment. For Wilkhahn, this sense of duty shines through their socio-ecological approach, where their commitment to design excellence is matched only by their ongoing dedication to their environmental responsibility.
The 2021 INDE.Awards Luminaries will be announced shortly. Sign up to be the first to discover the shortlist and pre-register your interest to attend the INDE Gala.
