Space Furniture is expanding its Singapore offering with a new flagship store to be completed halfway through next year.
October 20th, 2010
Celebrating 10 years in Singapore in 2011 Space furniture will launch The Space Asian Hub – due to open mid-2011 in the midst of the Arts and Entertainment District in Singapore, on Bencoolen Street.
Designed by WOHA architects, the store will comprise three parts; two retrofitted conservation buildings and a glass box which serves to unite the two, channelling a more minimalist and contemporary feel.
Senior Associate of WOHA, Chan Ee Mun is looking forward to the finished product:
“This was a unique opportunity to collaborate on the creation of a significant contemporary addition to our city’s collection of heritage sites,” he explains.
“With Space we have like-minded clients whose business is to enhance spatial qualities with the best contemporary furniture available.”
The design, with its restored dark timber floors, exposed brickwork and free spanning attics, strives to create a contemporary showroom while retaining the old-world charm of the heritage villas.
Syddal Wee, General Manager of Space Furniture, Asia Operations is confident about Singapore as the spot for first their first Asian flagship showroom.
“Propelled by the increase in upmarket properties in the region,” he explains, “as well as the rise in demand for luxury furniture, Singapore – with its strong economic fundamentals – was simply the ideal place to set up the Space Group’s first Asian hub.”
