In Connexion at Farrer Park, medical facilities and luxury accommodations work hand in hand, writes Olha Romaniuk.

Located in the historical neighbourhood of Farrer Park in Singapore, Connexion is a new development by DP Design encompassing a diverse range of accommodations and healing facilities that seek to provide places for healing and relaxation, all in one destination. Comprising the luxury One Farrer Hotel and Spa and Farrer Park Hospital in the East wing, Farrer Park Medical Centre in the West wing and Owen Link, a retail and dining zone, on the ground level, the 20-storey Connexion building caters equally to hospital visitors and corporate and leisure travellers.
While Farrer Park Hospital and Farrer Park Medical Centre cater more towards patients seeking restorative care, DP Design designed One Farrer Hotel and Spa to accommodate different traveler groups, providing customised experiences for various hospitality needs. Conceived as a “hotel within a hotel”, the design of the five-star urban resort integrated three hotels under one hospitality umbrella: the Urban Hotel, Loft Apartments and Skyline Hotel, and the Sky Villas. The team at DP Design envisioned the prestigious Sky Villas to accommodate guests looking for a unique family experience, Loft Apartments and Skyline Hotel to cater to long-stay visitors’ needs, and Urban Hotel to target business and corporate travellers.
Embodying luxury living through an incorporation of amenities like private outdoor courtyards and wine cellars, One Farrer Hotel and Spa offers exclusive facilities to hotel residents on the sixth floor, unveiling an array of retail and dining experiences through a modern and chic design, that is, at once, restrained with a neutral base palette and playful with colourful accents throughout the spaces.
For a complete restorative experience, Connexion thoughtfully integrates sky gardens, terraces and roof gardens to complement the medical programmes and promote healing throughout the development.
“This solution was based on the understanding that many people no longer visit hospitals just for acute sickness, but also for day surgeries and health check-ups and need a convenient, full-service place to stay after they are discharged,” says Mike Lim, Director of DP Design.
While Farrer Park Hospital and Farrer Park Medical Centre and One Farrer Hotel and Spa aim to serve different audiences, the distinct facilities take advantage from the close proximity to one another, integrating concepts of restorative care and luxury tourism throughout the various spaces. Indeed, within the Connexion complex, medical and hospitality facilities work hand in hand with one another. “The Farrer Park Hospital and One Farrer Hotel and Spa are designed as two separate buildings,” says Lim, “But they can provide a holistic healthcare-hospitality experience for those who seek it.”
