Europe’s leading office chair producer Scandinavian Business Seating sets a new benchmark for office chairs with the RH Mereo, designed in partnership with award-winning design agency Veryday. According to Lars I. Røri, the CEO of Scandinavian Business Seating, the RH Mereo was conceived with two simple goals – to enhance performance and make people feel good. “Mereo is Latin for earned or deserved, and that is exactly the feeling we want people to have when they sit in RH Mereo,” he says.
People in the office spend more than eight hours a day sitting in front of the computer. Studies have shown that stationary seating and unhealthy posture can lead to detrimental health effects. The RH Mereo was designed to help users sit upright comfortably, while supporting natural movement. After all, people perform best when they feel at ease and free.
A healthy seating posture is granted by positioning the hips slightly above the knees, while keeping the feet firmly on the ground. This allows even body weight distribution, without causing strain on a specific area. With that in mind, the RH Mereo focuses on the two ‘pivot points’ in the seated body – the hips and knees – under its trademarked 2PP Technology. To maintain an upright posture, all the user has to do is simply adjust the position of their hip and knee joints through the intuitive controls conveniently placed near the seating joints. Even as the user reclines, the seating posture is supported, encouraging constant movement. This leads to better blood and oxygen flow, helping the user to breathe better at work, reducing overall stress levels.
Possessing a wide range of adjustability, the chair can be quickly tailored to fit the unique physical traits of the individual, including users with special needs. The streamlined adjustment process is ideal for collaborative environments as users can move from station to station without having to fiddle with complex settings such as seating, armrests and back height.
The balance between support and movement makes the RH Mereo the ideal task chair for the changing needs of the 21st-century work force. “With the current trend of shared office spaces, flexible work hours and personalisation, we wanted to create a chair that could be quickly configured to meet individual preferences,” says Joakim Ahlström, Lead Designer at Veryday. The studio is known for its ability to push functional design to the next level, while staying true to the values of its clients, as seen in its portfolio with classics such as the BABYBJÖRN Baby Carrier and the Koenigsegg CC V8 sports car. Staying true to the RH brand, the designers at Veryday focused on human performance and design, imbuing the office chair with a more contemporary function. “RH Mereo takes the RH design ideology and makes it even more applicable to today’s corporate culture,” Ahlström says.
RH Mereo is available in two editions – silver and black – and options to customise according to the user’s needs.
By encompassing the ideals of upright posture and active seating, RH Mereo helps the user to find balance to perform better in the workplace.
