A total of 11,060 visitors, inclusive of the region’s community of eco-conscious architects, developers, energy managers, consultants and contractors, attended the Build Eco Xpo (BEX) this year in search of green building inspiration. In its eighth year running, the exposition took place from 2 to 4 September 2015 at Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre.

2015 marks a special year for BEX Asia. It was held in conjunction with the Mostra Convegno Expocomfort (MCE) – organised outside of Italy for the first time. Themed “Building Today, Sustaining Tomorrow”, the exhibitions collectively showcased the technologies of over 500 exhibiting companies and brands from more than 35 countries, including Australia, China, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Turkey and the United States, while hosting international delegates and facilitating partnerships between visitors and exhibitors. Over 332 one-to-one business meetings were conducted, as the event concluded with over US$125 million projected green building business transactions.

A leading business event in Southeast Asia for the “exchange of global expertise and technologies for sustainable building,” BEX Asia is essentially a platform for networking, knowledge-sharing and business sourcing in the green industry.

The addition of MCE took the event up a notch with a more diversified pool of exhibitors. Involving cooling, water, renewable energy and heating sectors, MCE was a fitting addition to BEX that reinforced the importance of merging multiple fields, including the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) industry, to create holistic green buildings. Technologies and solutions that will assist end users in achieving the prestigious BCA Green Mark award were presented.

First time exhibitor REC, showcased its eco-friendly rooftop with solar panels designed with Singapore’s limited space in mind. “Since REC commenced production in Singapore in 2010, we have reduced our own carbon footprint by more than 25%,” says Jen Tan, REC’s Vice President for Sales and Marketing in Asia Pacific. Through the Green View and Mostra Xchange seminars held at BEX, REC was able to educate and establish its brand with potential buyers.

Michael Koo, Business Development Manager of Belka, shared that the positive response for this year’s exposition is a sign of growing inclination within the region for green ideas. “It is encouraging to see that companies are embracing the implementation of green technology in commercial and residential areas,” he comments.

BEX Asia and MCE Asia are anchor trade events of the Singapore Green Building Week, held alongside the International Green Building Conference (IGBC) organised by the Building and Construction Authority (BAC), Singapore. Reinforcing Singapore’s commitment towards building a sustainable city, the BCA’s Green Mark scheme hit its tenth year anniversary this year.

The ninth edition of BEX Asia is expected to return from 7 to 9 September 2016.
