The travelling exhibition Essential Eames heads to Indonesia’s capital city in early 2012.
2 January, 2012
Design lovers in Jakarta will be in for a treat in the New Year when the Herman Miller Pop Up store, complete with the Essential Eames Exhibition, comes into town.
Essential Eames first opened at the Hong Kong Design Institute as part of Herman Miller’s REACH event in September 2011. After a very successful 3 months with over 15,000 visitors, the exhibition is now travelling to Jakarta’s Gandaria City where visitors can explore the life and work of Charles and Ray Eames, the most famous couple in design.
Based on the book “An Eames Primer” by Eames Demetrios, the exhibition is segmented into various sections that correspond to the chapters in the book. Visitors are first greeted by a wall showcase of Charles and Ray’s life, which covers the humble beginnings of Charles Eames, to his tenure at Cranbrook as design lecturer; and explores Ray’s artistic endeavours, particularly in painting and textile design.
Visitors then dive deep into the many facets of their work, from architecture to film, and from toys to products and furniture.
Presenting never before seen images, new films and early examples of work from the Herman Miller archives, Essential Eames will be free and open to the public for a limited time.
The Gandaria pop up store will also feature the latest products from Herman Miller, including the Eames Lounge & Ottoman in white leather and SAYL chair by Yves Behar.
