Designers reveal the ‘Future’ in Tanjong Pagar

The Project is always a must-see attraction at Singapore Indesign. We’re very excited to bring you a hint of what’s to come in 2014, as our Tanjong Pagar Exhibitors reveal their talented design partners and how they’re going to respond to this year’s theme, ‘Future’. EDL with Formwerkz EDL have a decade of inspiring spatial experiences behind them, with their design-driven, high-pressure laminate. Their collaboration partner for The Project is Formwerkz, whose philosophy states, “We want our efforts to be directed towards the recovery of mutual human relationships and the restoration of primordial relationships between man and nature.” The two companies have come together as a perfect fit for The Project, with an installation in the Red Dot Design Museum shaped by their vision of an Enchanted Forest. Playing with light and shadow, EDL and Formwerkz will recreate the magical feeling that emanates from aged trees. EDL EDL With EDL’s wide spectrum of timber tones embodying the colours and textures of a forest, visitors will be able to enter a sanctum within a giant tree. Inside, natural daylight and artificial accents blend in varying amounts to tell different stories of texture, form and colour. Visitors will even be able to ‘plant’ their own special souvenir in the ‘forest’ – or take it with them as a souvenir of their time there. Kohler with Studiogoto Kohler Kohler Also making their presentation at the Red Dot Design Museum, Kohler is one of America’s oldest and largest privately held companies, and their kitchen and bathroom products grace the interior of buildings throughout the world, from the incredible Burj Khalifa in Dubai to The Savoy in London. The different energies of the long-established Kohler and the fresh minds at Studiogoto are sure to make for an interesting take on the future! Their plans are still under wraps, but we’ll have more to reveal in the coming weeks! Kokuyo with M Moser Founded in 1905, Kokuyo began as a stationery store and developed into the supplier of office furniture, store fixtures and furniture for public spaces. Today, they have showrooms all over Asia and over 6,000 employees. Their Project partner, M Moser, specialises in workplace strategy and design, and this collaboration serves as an opportunity for them to showcase their more freewheeling creative streak. Singapore Indesign M Moser’s sketch for Kokuyo, The Project 2014 Their interactive installation is symbolic, moving, and populated with characters, both living and inanimate. Their narrative is grand: “Our installation aims to express the cross-impact and interconnectivity of human activity on the environment – on a local, regional and global scale.” Symbols of human existence express the present and the future, inspiring empathy, and as visitors come and go, the installation changes progressively over the day. “[Our installation] encourages visitors to reflect upon a conscious personal stewardship of our surroundings – each individual adds their own mark in their onward journey through space, yet the collective outcome evolves with a life

Long-time participators in The Project, Geyer have made something of a reputation for themselves and we’re really looking forward to seeing them spread their creative wings again. 003168_WH_Graph_2012 Wilkhahn This year’s Project installations in Tanjong Pagar are going to be awe-inspiring and philosophical – and you’ll see product in new ways, too.
