The founder of VOLA, Verner Overgaard, had an ‘eureka’ moment when he came upon the idea of hiding technical parts in the wall, which became the starting point also for the built-in waste bin and tissue holder (below), the first products in the company’s new Round Series.

Since their debut at the international sanitary fair ISH in Frankfurt last year, the products have gone on to win awards, including the “Best Product of the Year 2011” in their category at the Plus X Award contest. The waste bin has also received the GOOD DESIGN Award from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design.

The circular shape is a key element in the design, and the modular built-in concept offers new creative possibilities to work with space and materials in the bathroom – be it in an apartment, a hotel, a restaurant or an office building; the ability to combine the texture and colour of the wall with the choice of finish of the outer rings and colour of the front plate enables the architect or interior designer to create highly personalised design solutions.

The VOLA waste bin is unobtrusive, with the less aesthetically pleasing elements hidden neatly away in the wall. It can be opened by gently pushing the front with a hand or knee. The open / close mechanism is smooth and silent.

The paper tissue holder holds up to 100 paper tissues, and a concealed spring ensures that the tissues are always pushed to the front.

VOLA is available in Singapore at Volume Five Home.
