Kerry Parkside is located in the heart of Huamu district, Shanghai – a newly developed area surrounded by upscale residential communities and the city’s largest green space, Century Park – and is directly connected to the Shanghai New International Expo Centre.

In designing the 45,000m2 mall, which spans three levels, Woods Bagot took its cue from the 19th century Les Halles, a historic marketplace in Paris where merchants used to sell their wares and citizens gathered. Incidentally, Les Halles was demolished to make way for an underground shopping precinct (Forum des Halles) in the ‘70s.

Kerry Parkside is conceptualised as an elegant retail warehouse and features large, flexible market style spatial volumes. The retail layout encourages maximum shopfront visibility, and from the central atrium and through wire mesh baluster panels, visitors get to see and feel the movement on other floors.

Signages are also easily visible from the atrium, as well as from the voids located at different areas of the mall.

Additionally, the placement of escalators within the voids enables visitors to enjoy the window displays at every single level.

The loop circulation layout also connects the mall easily to the adjacent hotel, office and convention centre.
