Interface’s first global product offering bridges the gap between city living and the natural environment.
August 1st, 2012
The folks at Interface have observed that even in the most urban areas around the world, people want to feel connected to nature. They have thus introduced a new global product offering called Urban Retreat, a collection of carpet tiles that evoke the quiet and sanctuary of an old-growth forest floor down to the occasional moss or lichen-covered stone.
Urban Retreat One can be assembled to explore ideas about colour, form and the transition from one to the other. There are three patterns, eight colourways in a complex primary pattern and eight boldly mixed colours in a transitional pattern. There are also four accent tiles that link and separate each pattern at one’s discretion.
Urban Retreat Two features the orderly and the organic in a restrained palette. The mixing of patterns accentuates the differences in scale, volume and movement, thus revealing the uniqueness of each. There are three patterns in total and the neutral palette of eight colourways invites nuanced studies in texture.
Urban Retreat Three is a play of refined textures. The most usual of the three comes in shifting shades with the finest fissures, reminiscent of French limestone only somehow soft. A shimmering linen-like textile balances the set with a graceful scale. This collection shares the same hues found in Urban Retreat Two.
