Inspired by hammock-style seaside furniture, Geiger’s Scissor Lounge Chair offers optimal reclining comfort.
December 21st, 2012
American designer Ward Bennett (1917–2003) designed the Scissor Lounge Chair in 1964, taking inspiration from the ubiquitous hammock-style chaise transatlantique of the mid-nineteenth century. Now, Geiger has re-introduced it for today’s lifestyles.
Bennett described the Scissor chair as his most comfortable chair ever. Its curved back provides a shallow cocoon for the body, and its rounded solid ash frame provides a gentle edge. The frame is available in a selection of stains and a range of fabrics or leather can be used for the upholstery.
Bennett was one of the earliest American designers to introduce industrial materials into the home – well before the high-tech look of the 1970s. He was hailed by the American Institute of Architects for “transforming industrial hardware into sublime objects.” From 1987, he worked with Geiger directly.
The Geiger Scissor Lounge Chair is available in Singapore at XTRA Park Mall.
