The South Loop put up a brilliant show – from fine design to great lighting action to a hilly terrain utilising fabric!

Over at Central Mall, visitors to Stylecraft were not only treated to a host of new products, from tables to ottomans to chairs, including the Arper Catifa 53 Timber Chairs (up for a lucky draw prize!), but also a Chinese shophouse setting designed by Natalie Louey from Ong&Ong and Karen Fairfax from PDM International. There was a delicious oriental menu to dig into and comfortable furniture environments to relax and recharge before continuing on the SiD adventure.
Just next door, the Schiavello/Vitra showroom – with Geyer’s creative touch – was all festive and green with Eames Elephants, balloons and grass carpeting that brought the outside in. We were more than a little amazed by the countless possibilities of the highly adaptable Vitra ID concept chair by Antonio Citterio – which had its sleek parts displayed in a box. Everyone was also keen to experience and test out the newly launched Schiavello Climate workspace and Vitra HAL collection.
Then it was down to charming Kreta Ayer street, which was quite a hive of activity as visitors flocked to Bene and Waldmann Lighting’s showcase of fine office furnishings and brilliant lights – and the promise of a whirlwind tour to 4 cities around the world!
Ever curious, we stepped inside only to find ourselves in Shanghai, followed in quick succession by New York, Dubai and Singapore. Part of their collaborative project with DEGW and Nanyang Polytechnic School of Design, the installation highlighted the possibilities for global connection through the diversity and versatility of the products on show.
We don’t think that could have been a more perfect setting either to test out Bene’s PARCS room-shaping furniture programme, and Waldmann Lighting’s newly launched products!
Then it was a very quick ride past yet more charming shophouses to the new little design gem in town! Launching its showroom at SiD, Pomelo stood out for its stable of very lovely brands such as Established & Sons, Semigood, Mattiazzi, Modernica and Emma Gardner Design – all of which are exclusive to them in Singapore.
Design hunters were still talking about “that cool little store called Pomelo” as we continued the bus ride to the next stop to see the hilly terrain in New Majestic Hotel.
No, you read it right! As part of The Project, Distillery had incorporated Woven Image’s new environmentally-friendly and cost-effective wallcovering solution, EchoPanel Mura, into a hilly structure that showed off the product’s innovative design and versatility. Besides a great lucky door prize of an iPad 2 featuring the revolutionary Woven Image app, those around at 4pm could also catch Distillery’s presentation of the concept they had created.
