Rare and never-before-seen works of Charles and Ray Eames will be on display at the Herman Miller exhibition, which makes its Singapore debut this month.

When Essential Eames: A Herman Miller exhibition opens at Singapore’s ArtScience Museum on 29 June, Eames fans will get to see rare and never-before-seen items from the Eames’ family collection, The Eames Office and the Herman Miller archives.

The design duo’s unique relationship with Herman Miller, the manufacturer of Eames products, will also be showcased.

The exhibition is based on the book An Eames Primer, which traces the life and work of the design couple.

Some of the special highlights will include a chair designed for Pope John Paul II; the signature fibreglass Eames shell chairs; original paintings by Ray Eames – shown for the first time in Asia Pacific; an original segment of the Eames’ exhibition Mathematica; one of the couple’s most loved toys – House of Cards; and groundbreaking films from the Eames archives, as well as new films created by the Eames Office and the couple’s grandson, Eames Demetrios.

Eames Demetrios will also serve as curator of Essential Eames, and will bring visitors on a series of guided tours and lectures during the exhibition’s opening weekend of 29 and 30 June.
