Under the art direction of Marcus Piper (founding art director of award-winning magazine POL Oxygen and the designer behind Jaime Hayon’s first monograph Jaime Hayon Works), Cubes Indesign is sleeker, sharper and more sophisticated. Needless to say, we also took the opportunity to fine tune the content to make it an even more worthwhile read.

The making of Singapore University of Technology and Design’s Library Pavilion

For one, our cover story on City Form Lab’s Library Pavilion for the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) not only reveals the inside story of the project, but also lets you in on the gargantuan task of assembling the structure through exclusive behind-the-scenes images of the construction process. 

Geylang Lorong 24A project

We also look at the Geylang Lorong 24A series of shophouses and feature five from the series. Here, Lekker Design, FARM, Linghao Architects, Zarch Collaboratives and HYLA Architects all present vastly different takes on the traditional shophouse.

Cisco’s new headquarters

On the corporate front, this issue is bursting with examples of progressive commercial design in Singapore – a very good indicator of changing mindsets about design in Singapore. For example, Cisco’s new headquarters at Changi Business Park – a project by Space Matrix – is a fierce challenge to traditional offices and it is very convincing, while MOD’s design of OCBC’s Campus is yet another example of the changing tides in corporate design.
