The ‘Nuance’ collection by celebrated New York product designer Stacy Garcia is inspired by the ephemeral world and captures nature’s transient moments.
April 14th, 2011
Brintons, known worldwide for its woven Axminster carpet, has once again teamed up with product designer Stacy Garcia on a new carpet collection, called ’Nuance’.
Brintons’ last collaboration with Garcia was in early 2010, with the highly successful ’Nouveau Boho’ line.
While ’Nouveau Boho’ takes inspiration from global culture and fashion, the new ’Nuance’ range is inspired by the ephemeral world and captures nature’s transient moments through a strong focus on abstraction and the organic. Colours and moods are taken from natural elements and the forces of nature: light, sound, sand and the ocean.
Neutrals are drawn from beautifully natural sources that include the colours on a shell, the shifting shadows that are found in sand dunes and the charcoals in a weathered piece of driftwood. Shapes are inspired by similar elements that include the weathered markings of nature’s elements over time and the texture left in the sand on a beach by the wind and the ocean.
Techniques such as washes, ink markings, fading and surface rubbing, which are reflected in a series of designs, give this collection a moody and sophisticated direction.
“Thanks to Brintons’ technical capabilities when working with Axminster, I have been able to bring out all of these beautiful subtleties that we find in nature – whether it’s light reflecting off a rock or wind blowing patterns into the sand. The collection is driven by the desire to take a moment out of our hectic schedules, to breathe and to pay attention to what’s happening around us,” says Garcia.
