Contours are an omnipresent design element and a unique branding statement in BG Group’s new Singapore office at Asia Square.
March 5th, 2013
’BG contours’ is a branding statement that can be seen in all BG offices worldwide; it is a graphical representation of the contours of seismic maps, and is used to express the concept and theme of ’exploration’ – a major aspect of BG Group’s business as a world leader in natural gas.
In the organisation’s new Singapore office at Asia Square Tower 1, M Moser has pushed this concept further.
“We took this 2-dimensional branding guideline, interpreted it 3-dimensionally, and transformed it into a prominent design feature,” says lead designer Lowell Law.
Forgoing the traditional use of stick-on graphics, Law has instead created a feature ceiling that flows from the reception area and connects to the pantry within the expansive front of house space.
The contoured ceiling is composed of multi-layered slats, which not only links the front of house to the collaborative staff areas within, but also acts as a frame to the stunning views of Marina Bay.
“By applying the branding element on the ceiling rather than the floor and walls, there is visual continuity and it lends itself as a natural focal point,” says Law.
The office features open plan workspaces for staff as well as informal collaboration areas. And to take full advantage of the panoramic views and ensure maximum light penetration into the space, the meeting rooms are positioned in the centre of the office with open plan seating located near the windows.
BG Group has secured an entire floor at Asia Square to accommodate future growth. At present, about half of that or 16,000sqft is fitted out and occupied.
