Winners across 10 interior design categories have been announced at a gala dinner in Hong Kong

Now in its twentieth year, the annual Asia Pacific Interior Design Award (APIDA) recognises outstanding interior design projects in the Asia Pacific region. Organised by the Hong Kong Interior Design Association (HKIDA), the APIDA 2012 attracted nearly 600 submissions from Hong Kong/China and further afield.
Chongqing Mountain & City Sales Office by One Plus Partnership Limited (Gold award, Installation and Exhibition Space category)
A total of 44 awards were presented on 23 November at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The number of entries from designers outside Hong Kong/China increased this year. Among them were entries from Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, Macau, Thailand, Indonesia, India, the Philippines, Korea, Australia and New Zealand.
Spice Market Restaurant at Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort and Spa (Langkawi) by Blu Water Studio Sdn Bhd (Excellence award, Food Space category)
ABN AMRO Office by HASSELL (Silver award, Work Space category)
The awarded categories included Shopping Space, Food Space, Work Space, Public Space, Installation and Exhibition Space, Living Space, Student, Leisure and Entertainment Space, Hotel Space and Sample Space. ‘Gold’, ‘Silver’, ‘Bronze’ and ‘Excellence’ awards were granted.
Lane Crawford Lab by Neri & Hu Design and Research Office (Bronze award, Shopping Space category)
Wuhan Pixel Box Cinema by One Plus Partnership Limited (Gold award, Leisure and Entertainment Space category)
Shanghai-based Neri & Hu Design and Research Office was a big winner, picking up 7 awards across 5 categories. Hong Kong’s One Plus Partnership Limited was also well recognised, with 5 awards across 4 categories. A full list of winners can be seen on the APIDA website.

Yingjia Club by Neri & Hu Design and Research Office (Bronze award, Public Space category)
The 10 local and international judges were Antony Chan (CREAM), Michael Chan (EDGE Architects), Professor Patrick Lau (SBS, JP), Patrick Fong (Patrick Fong Design and China Academy of Art), Tommy Li (Tommy Li Design Workshop), William Lim (CL3 Architects), Jun Aoki (Jun Aoki & Associates), Paul Lewis (Lewis Tsurumaki Lewis Architects), Robert Thiemann (Frame Magazine), and Thom Filicia (Thom Filicia).

The APIDA has 3 aims: to promote public awareness of interior design as an important aspect of everyday life; to acknowledge and give industry recognition to deserving projects and designers; and to encourage and promote professional standards and ethics among interior design practices operating in the region.
VIP Lounge at ART HK 2012 by Marc & Chantal Design (Excellence award, Installation and Exhibition Space category)
Established in 1991, the HKIDA is a non-government, non-profit organisation with a membership of designers, contractors, suppliers and other related bodies in interior architecture. The HKIDA is a member of the International Federation of Interior Architects and Designers (IFI) and the Asia Pacific Space Designers Alliance (APSDA).

Said Kinney Chan (Chairman of the HKIDA) on the day of the award ceremony, “This year has been extraordinary for the HKIDA, since it is Design Year in Hong Kong as well as the twentieth anniversary of the APIDA. Also, we are about to join hands again with the Japanese Commercial Environment Designers Association (JCD) and the Korean Society of Interior Designers (KOSID) to present the Hong Kong edition of East Gathering.”
Mercato by Neri & Hu Design and Research Office (Excellence award, Food Space category)
He continued, “I strongly believe that, after this series of educational and promotional activities, the status of Hong Kong and Asia Pacific interior design will be further enhanced and elevated towards international standards, contributing positively to social and economic development in the region.”
