Expect new experiences at Art Stage Singapore 2013, opening on 24 January.
January 3rd, 2013
Back in November, we spoke to Art Stage Singapore’s founder and director Lorenzo Rudolf about the upcoming 2013 fair, and his goal of bridging between Asia’s fragmented art scenes.
Since then, it’s been announced that WY-TO will be designing key concept sets at the 2013 fair, including the entrance arch and VIP lounge area.
Now, the Art Stage team has released details of the 2013 programme.

More than 120 galleries will be exhibiting, 75 per cent of which are from the Asia Pacific region. There’ll be a record number of Singapore-based galleries – 18 in total. Singapore is the largest participant by country, followed by China, Japan, Australia and the UK.
Participation from Australian galleries has doubled in comparison to last year, signaling the importance of Australia as a key Asia Pacific market.

This year, the Singapore Platform will be developed by Singapore’s National Arts Council (NAC), and will be an exclusive commissioning platform for Singapore artists. This strategic move is part of the Council’s priority to grow the capabilities of Singapore artists, says Art Stage, and provide opportunities for them to produce ambitious new works.
In addition, for the first time, the new Singapore platform aims to develop curatorial capabilities by appointing young Singaporean curators to develop the exhibition. More information about the projects will be released by NAC.

The Indonesia Pavilion at Art Stage Singapore 2013 will be one of the largest international showcases of contemporary Indonesian art to date. An education centre managed by the non-profit Indonesian Visual Art Archive (IVVA), will contain a small library and a screening and discussion area for documentary screenings and talks.

As Rudolf previously discussed, this year will see the introduction of a virtual version of the event: Art Stage +. Read more at the Art Stage website. There you’ll also find all the details of the planned talks and special programmes.
Art Stage Singapore 2013 will be held from 24 to 27 January at Marina Bay Sands Exhibition and Convention Centre.
