The tech-savvy traveller looking for a hip, modern and affordable lodge when in Bangkok will soon be able to head to the new Aloft Bangkok – Sukhumvit 11 when it is completed in mid 2011.

Owned by Starwood Hotels and Resorts, the Aloft brand aims to shake up the traditional hotel scene with urban-influenced, modern and vibrant designs, whilst keeping its guests wired to the world.

While Aloft hotels can today be found in many major cities following a rapid-fire expansion programme, Bangkok is its first step into Southeast Asia.

To cater to the Asian market, HASSELL Bangkok was brought in to adjust and, to a certain extent upgrade, the standard Aloft design from the US.

“We developed the new design based on the original Aloft intent but revised and upgraded various aspects of the original design including new furniture specifications, casework designs and all finishes,” says Peter Skinner, Managing Principal of HASSELL Bangkok.

Taking into consideration its location on the bustling entertainment district of Sukhumvit 11, the 297-room hotel will have a much bigger meeting space compared with other Aloft hotels, and full service dining – which most other Alofts do not have.

The hotel’s unique design features include a loft-like space with nine-foot ceilings, Aloft’s signature platform beds and oversized spa showers.

“Walls are broken down and energy flows from one place to another. You can see this in the guestrooms and the lobby,” says Skinner.

Each room will come with free broadband and wireless internet access, as well as plug and play connectivity stations for all tech devices. The hotel will also have free Wi-Fi in all public areas.

Skinner says that when it opens its doors, Aloft will offer something fresh and new for the next “youthful” generation of travellers in Bangkok.
