Education doesn’t just promote innovation; it also requires it. Active learning is a new territory in education that’s formed by three factors: technology, pedagogy, and space.

Today’s teaching methods are diverse and evolving, and the classroom needs to easily and quickly adapt to different teaching and learning preferences. Interactive pedagogies require learning spaces where everyone can see the content and interact easily with others.
Today’s students, meanwhile, bring new tools, new attitudes, and new expectations into the classroom. They’re savvy and comfortable with technology, and demanding of their education. They’re fully aware of the global economy and the competition it represents.
Architects, designers and educators are considering a new classroom paradigm where technology and the physical space are integrated to support pedagogy and create a more active and engaging experience. Active learning is the future of education, and needs furniture that can fully support it.
Steelcase FlipTop Twin
Steelcase Education Solutions was created to support these new approaches with products such as FlipTop Twin and Mobile Elements.
FlipTop Twin was designed with flexibility in mind. A simple folding mechanism enables the worktop to be easily flipped down to create a meeting space, and flipped up and rolled away for quick and space-efficient storage. Smooth rolling castors bring flexibility to the configuration of meeting spaces that can accommodate different uses, including training sessions, team work, group meetings or conferences.
The FlipTop Twin table weighs just 38.8kg, is made from 62% recycled materials, and is 43% recyclable by weight. Commingled components are minimised to promote recycling and ensure easy disassembly using common work tools. This PVC-free table was designed with a minimum number of different materials and components.
Steelcase Mobile Elements
The Mobile Elements family of mobile multipurpose tools was designed to make collaboration a dynamic experience. It enables the creation of diverse settings to support active learning in different collaboration needs, from small team meetings, to presentations, to training sessions.
Mobile Elements help make space work smarter and harder by turning in-between, café, and meeting spaces into collaboration and conferencing settings in moments.
